Chris Ulrich, AMA Pro Superbike Racer Road Racing World Editor – Team M4 Monster Energy Suzuki
Ulrich, a second generation racer, has competed on a wide variety of bikes over the years including 125GP and 250GP machines and big-bore Superstock and endurance bikes. In 2009 he raced the Superstock class and finished 12th overall. In 2008 Ulrich had a few podiums but his season was interrupted when he shattered his hand in a crash. So far in 2010 he is currently seventh overall in the AMA Superbike class. He was out at the MotoGP this past weekend covering the event.

Jason DiSalvo, Moto2 Racer – GP Tech Team
Jason had an amazing weekend at the Red Bull MotoGP in Indianapolis finishing in ninth place in the Moto2 class: the best finish of the three American wild card entries. He had his work cut out for him as he moved his way through traffic from 27th up to 9th overall. With minimal time to test and adjust to the bike, he showed that he has what it takes to run with the best in Moto2 racing. DiSalvo started the season racing on the Triumph ParknGo team in the World Supersport Series, however the opportunity did not work for him so he parted ways after the Miller round.

Sammy Halbert – Flat Track racer, Halbert Brothers Racing
Sammy turned Pro in 2004 and won the AMA Pro Sport Hot-Shoe National Championship, in 2006 he won the AMA Ricky Graham Rookie of the year award. In 2007 he rode for team Memphis Shades/Yamaha and won his first Grand National race in his home state at the Castle Rock, WA TT. In 2008 he started his own racing team and finished 5th place in the GNC Twins Championship. Then in 2009 he won the overall Grand National Championship. Now he currently sits second place in the Grand National Championship 12 points out of the lead with 5 races to go.

Aaron just finished working on a motocross mural at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch where he painted a mural dedicated to the FIM Junior MX Championship in France. His passion for motocross has led him to find a way to blend his artistic talents with his love of motocross. A former pro motocrosser, he paints murals and faux finishes in homes for a living, however, his newest endeavor combines his passion for motorcycles with his artistic abilities. Aaron has also painted motorcycle helmets and garage murals in the past.

Michael Beck almost did not make it to the races in 2010, but then he got the call from CNR Motorsports. Beck has been racing professionally for a number of years. Back in 2008 he raced for the M4 Suzuki team prior to that he had some support from Chuck Graves in 2007. In 2009 he fielded his own privateer effort with the help of his Dad. This year on the DNA team he has proven to be very valuable in developing the best set up for the Ducati 848 bike. In addition to racing motorcycles Beck also finds time to be a fulltime college student.

Jimmy Button, Miles for Miracles – 2011
Jimmy was a factory Yamaha motocross racer in 2000. He crashed at the San Diego Supercross that year and suffered paralyzing injuries caused by a pinched spinal cord in the C-3 to C-6 region of his neck. He was considered an incomplete quadriplegic but after many months of rehab he was able to regain movement and eventually walk. In 2011 he will be riding a bicycle 2,428 miles from San Diego to Daytona Beach to raise money for spinal cord research. Their goal is to raise a minimum of $1 million.

Steve had a very impressive amateur career winning three titles: a World Championship, a British Championship and a U.S. Championship. In 2009, Clarke finished the SX Lites season in 10th place and raced the motocross Lites class finishing in16th place. He shattered his wrist at the end of 2009 and almost lost his hand. He recuperated and raced the part of the Lites East season (16th overall). He is currently racing 450’s in the motocross series (18th place)

Jason Anderson, Loretta Lynn’s 2010 Horizon Award Winner
Jason has been racing motocross since he was 6 years old and has won 50 amateur national titles. This year at Loretta’s, he looked to be on a roll winning his first two moto’s of the 250A pro sport that is until he had a DNF in the final moto due to a mechanical problem. In the 450A class, he also won his first two moto’s but unfortunately crashed 3 times on the first lap in the final race. He rode with incredible speed and finished 5th. It was enough to clinch the title and his amazing ride earned him the prestigious Horizon Award. Now Jason sets his sights on turning pro.

Gregg Lynk, Owner and Engine Developer – Lynk’s Racing
Gregg started working with one of Suzuki’s amateur riders Greg Rand back in 1993. From there he went on to work with some local riders and eventually became the shop manager for Primal Impulse in Southern California. He learned a lot about engine development and took a roll as a mechanic with riders like Buddy Antunez and Branden Jesseman. Later he became the Team Manager for a few teams like Fun Bike Center and Fun Center Suzuki. Lynk has returned to his roots as an engine developer and started Lynk’s Racing. He now builds championship winning engines for top amateur riders like American Suzuki’s Tristen Miller.

Amy has been working hard to see that the Pickholz Act be turned into legislation. As a result of her efforts HB687 has been passed in Louisiana and The Pickholtz Act is now Law. This legislation is monumental in Louisiana and it can have a big impact on the rest of the country. Amy is associated with the Motorcycle Awareness Campaign. MAC will be hosting their first leadership conference on August 28, 2010.

Taylor Knapp is coming off his best weekend of the season on his Riders Discount Suzuki with two fifth place finishes at the Suzuki White Lightning AMA Superbike Races. He is currently sitting in eighth place overall in the highly competitive superbike class. In 2009, Knapp raced a Buell in the Daytona and a Suzuki in the Superbike class, he finished eleventh overall in DSB and ninth overall in ASB. He was the 2008 GSXR Suzuki Cup Champion and also won a number of WERA Championships.

Costella is Mr MiniMoto, with more championships to his name than anyone else. Kurtis a former MotoGP racer proved he still has what it takes to run at the front in AMA when he rode on a Rider’s Discount bike last month at Mid-Ohio. His last full season of racing a motorcycle was in 2007. Kurtis qualified tenth at Mid-Ohio and finished tenth on the second day of racing after high-siding in race one. He is a three-time AMA Champion with two Formula Xtreme titles in 1999 and 2000 and as well as a Supersport title in 2000. He has over 25 superbike podiums in his career. Kurtis is the youngest brother in the Robert’s family and the son of famous motorcycle racer Kenny Roberts.

Robbie is a long time professional motocross racer and a former World SX Champion. He is also credited as being the youngest rider to win an outdoor national along with being the youngest rider to win an Arenacross championship. He recently became the owner of one of Oklahoma’s premier motocross facilities. This past week we saw Robbie make his return to the amateur ranks at Loretta Lynn’s where he crushed the competition in the +25 class sweeping all three moto’s and finished a respectable 4th overall in the 450A Pro Sport class.

Henry has three dirt track national wins to his credit already this season. He is leading the singles class. He is fifth (5th) in the combined standings and sixth (6th) in the twins standings. It is hard to believe that Nate only started his road racing career in 2002. Since that time he has amassed some incredible results in WERA and CCS racing on his BMW. He has accomplished the impossible with a motorcycle that many considered to be underpowered and overweight, earning himself the moniker “Ambassador for BMW”. Highlights of his accomplishments include: 2003 WERA Formula 1 Champion, 2005 Overall Champion CCS Mid-Atlantic and Southeast Region, 2008 ASRA Pro Thunderbike Champion. Kern is preparing himself to enter into AMA Pro racing in 2011 with the new BMW superbike.

Josh manages one of the top racetracks in the country. Recently named one of the top six road courses in America by Car & Driver Magazine, VIR is possibly one of the most scenic tracks on the AMA Superbike circuit. The superbike event at VIR was formerly known as the Big Kahuna but this year the track took over promotion of the event and changed the name to the White Lightning Superbike Nationals – Faster Than The Law Allows to celebrate the southern history associated with racing. The event has tons of entertainment planned for their race August 13 – 15 in addition to the amazing bike racing where fans can see everything from superbikes to Harley XR1200’s and electric motorcycles.

Hailing from South Africa, Tyla was the 2008 MX2 World Champion. Now living in America, Rattray is showing he has what it takes to run at the front in the Lucas Oil Outdoor Lites Championship. This past weekend at Washougal he finished 4th in moto 1 and 3rd in moto 2 for a 3rd overall. After Round 8 of the series, Rattray sits in 3rd place overall, with four races to go. From the looks of things we are only just beginning to see what the Ratters is capable of doing with his dogged determination and his spirit of a true fighter.

Doug Henry is one of the true hero’s in American motorcycling. No matter what sport he applies himself to his approach is always the same – give it all you got and never quit. That is why he has so many victories and successes to his name. Most recently he won the Bronze medal at the 2010 Winter X Games in Snocross. Also to his credit is the re-ignition of the four-stroke revolution in motocross, three pro motocross championships, one supercross championship and an X Games Gold in Supermoto.
